Software Features Base Package

The software is the instrument! Find out how the Nanonis software can respond to the highest demands in SPM applications. Together with its track record reliability, the Nanonis controller can significantly increase day-to-day efficiency and productivity.

  Software Handling

The Nanonis software is based on latest programming techniques. With its modular architecture and multi-window application all data are acquired simultaneously and transmitted to all modules at all times.
The window layout and settings can be stored and recalled at the click of a button for quick experiment switching.

  24 Live Signals

24 signals: 8 Inputs, 8 outputs and 8 internal signals seamlessly accessible throughout the entire Nanonis software. Any signal can be selected in any module for feedback, spectroscopy or noise analysis. The distinction between inputs and outputs is blurred to provide a more powerful experimental platform. All signals are displayed in physical units using a floating point representation with assigned SI units.

  Interactive Scan Control

Three modes integrated in this module: 'Scan', 'Follow-me' and 'Grid'. It is possible to zoom, navigate and paste scanned data to the background for reference. Any of the 24 signals can be displayed in multiple windows. Pause then resume scan after tip cleaning, spectroscopy or manipulation. The motion of the tip is visualized in real-time when scanning or positioned with the mouse.

  MultiPass Scanning Mode

The scan control now also supports multi-pass scanning. A single line can be scanned multiple times with different parameters for each pass. For each pass, the bias and feedback setpoint can be changed. Further it is possible to record one channel, e.g. topography, and then play it back in the following path - a typical MFM application. For complete freedom and flexibility the user can call a piece of his own LabVIEW code to change all settings after each pass.
The slow scan axis behaviour can be changed from normal to line-feed.

  Fully Digital Feedback

Z-controller module: the distance between tip and sample can be controlled by any signal or mathematical combination of two signals. Digital control with no analog drift introduced when loop is opened. The user-configurable Z-controller allows switching on-the-fly between settings such as input signal and feedback parameters. TipLift™ and switch-off delay for accurate and reproducible height determination.

  Spectrum Analyzers, Graphs and Oscilloscope

- dual channel oscilloscope with post- and pre-trigger
- spectrum analyzer: continuous display of any 24 channels
- signal chart: rolling chart for continuous data monitoring
- long term spectrum: record data over hours or days to discriminate environmental effects from the microscope measurements.

  2D and 3D Spectroscopy

Advanced spectroscopy modules for experiments on a point, a line, a cloud or a grid:
- Z-spectroscopy with user-defined retract condition
- Bias spectroscopy with 7 timing parameters available before, during and after the spectroscopy
- Generic sweeper: sweep one of 13 possible signals (8 physical outputs and 5 internally calculated) while recording any other channels.

  Generic PI Controller

The Generic Controller Module adds one extra PI loop which can be used to control on any signal - internal or external. For example it can be used to control the temperature of your setup or to keep the z-offset of your piezo at zero (given your piezo supports this offsets). The possibilities are endless.

  Open File Format

The Nanonis file format (.sxm) for scan images and binary file format (.3ds) for experiment on a grid are described in details in the contextual help. Most processing software such as SPIP, Gwyddion and WSxM open Nanonis files. The file header can be read directly in Notepad++. Matlab and LabVIEW routines are provided for customized post-data processing.
